As a player you can pilot one ship at at time and send it on missions. Missions are based on locations, so you need to either start by scouting or ask a friend for help. Once you have discovered a location, you might need to combat hostile entities at that location. After clearing the location, you can start mining for resources like ore until the location is depleted.
